Liverpool- European Capital of Culture 2008

A centre of maritime, cultural and sporting excellence. Liverpool successfully won capital of culture 2008 beating off stiff competition. Liverpool boasts unrivalled architecture and heritage, with a world famous waterfront itself named UNESCO world heritage site. The city can boast it has more Grade l and ll listed buildings and museums than any other city outside of London.

Liverpool is best known for The Beatles and their legacy can be seen all across the city. Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields to name a few are established on a popular tourist trail which attracts thousands of music lovers from across the world. However Liverpool's innate sense of cool was not left behind in the swinging 60s. The city boasts a vibrant night scene with a plethora of clubs, restaurants, live music venues, cafes and a wide cultural variety of drinking bars ranging from the traditional public house to the latest designer -chic cafes and theatres. Alma de Cuba is one of the city’s latest venues and is situated in a 200 -year -old Polish Church, Cuban and Miami - inspired bar and restaurant has to be seen to be believed.

Liverpool is must for fashion. The famous Cavern walk is a must for lovers of catwalk couture and high street fashion alike. Whilst shopping why not drop into the world famous Cavern club in Mathew Street.

Liverpool is home to two famous football teams- Liverpool and Everton. The Reds are England’s most successful club side, winning more major trophies than any other team including 18 league championships and five European cups -more than other British club. In addition to football Liverpool is home to the worlds most famous steeplechase the Grand National, and in July 2006 the 'Open Golf Championship, will return to Liverpool for the first time in 39 years.

Liverpool is truly one of the greatest cities in the world, so come and teach in this unique city with its unique people.
